Discover the Treasures of the Estes Valley Library: Programs, Resources, and More
Hi everyone, Julie Abel here from Living in Estes Park with the Signature Home Team! Today, I'm thrilled to share my visit to one of my absolute favorite places in town—the Estes Valley Library. Though our library may be considered small by some, it’s packed with fantastic resources and programs that cater to both residents and visitors alike. Let’s dive into what makes this place so special.
Community-Centered Programming
During my visit, I had the pleasure of speaking with Barbara Jo, who oversees programming at the library. She shared that their approach is rooted in understanding the community's needs. They consistently reach out to locals to see what topics interest them most and create programs that align with those interests. Whether it’s sessions for children, teens, or adults, the library’s monthly themed programming ensures that everyone has something to look forward to.
A Maker Space Like No Other
The library's maker space, which opened in 2017, has grown into one of the library's most popular features. It’s equipped for both simple crafting and more advanced technological pursuits. With tools such as 3D printers, a laser engraver, sewing machines, and even an embroidery machine, the space caters to a wide range of creative projects. Unlike many other libraries, the Estes Valley Library allows patrons to work hands-on with these tools, free of charge. As Barbara Jo noted, most maker spaces restrict hands-on access, making this offering unique and valuable.
Library of Things and Take-and-Make Kits
Another fantastic offering is the Library of Things, which allows patrons to check out useful tools and items, from cake baking kits to board games. Additionally, the library provides Take-and-Make Kits, which include materials from past programs for those who couldn't attend the original sessions. This initiative allows community members to engage in crafting on their own time, bringing the library experience home.
Technical Services and the Heart of the Library
I also caught up with Brad, the Technical Services Supervisor, who ensures the smooth running of library operations, including managing their extensive collection of nearly 40,000 books. Brad shared that the library isn't just for locals; visitors can also get a temporary library card, allowing them to access everything from books to public meeting rooms equipped for hybrid meetings.
Uncovering Hidden Gems
Beyond books, library cards come with unexpected perks. Patrons can enjoy subscriptions to the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, and other valuable resources. The library’s digital collection includes over a million titles, making it accessible from anywhere, even if parking or timing is an issue.
Whether you're a local or a visitor, the Estes Valley Library is a must-visit for community connection, learning, and creativity. Check out their website for the latest on programs, resources, and more.
